Glenmorangie Tùsail (글렌모렌지 투세일)

The Tùsail is a special edition Glenmorangie made using a type of barley that's more often used for making beer than whisky, "Maris Otter". The older style of barley, combined with traditional style floor malting gives this whisky a unique character that's not often seen in Scotch these days.

Vitals:

Colour: Light gold

Chill-filtered: No.

Nose: A grain heavy blend of malted barley, barley tea, granola and crumbly digestive biscuits hits the nostrils at first, followed by sliced apples drenched in an expensive, very floral honey. Sitting behind the apples and honey is a light orange peel note, that lingers even when the apples and honey fade away. 21/25

Palate: Sweet milk chocolate, honey and a dash of spicy cinnamon powder blends with oats and barley making this feel like a rich and filling breakfast cereal. Then as this continues, oranges appear and balance out the sweetness with a sour note. 23/25

Finish: Medium length finish that's rich in orange oil, custard and malted barley. Both sweet and sour, but very smooth. 20.5/25

Conclusion:

I'm sorry to hear that this is a limited edition Glenmorangie as it's really good. It reminds me a little bit of Oban 14 with the malty taste and notes of oranges, but at the same time the heavy cereal notes give it a unique character. The other Glenmorangies feel similar at their heart as they are usually based off of the 10 year old, but this is different and you can tell that it is different.

향: 맥아, 보리차, 그래놀라, 다이제를 연상시키는 곡물 향이 훅 들어옵니다. 바닐라 푸딩, 크림, 카스테라를 연상시키는 달콤함도 참 좋습니다. 그리고 아주 단 사과 향이 나는데 마치 사과 한 조각을 진한 꿀에 담궜다 꺼낸듯한 느낌이랄까요?ㅎ 이어서 약하게 오렌지 껍질 향이 납니다.

맛: 밀크초콜릿과 꿀, 계피가루, 오트와 보리를 섞어놓은 맛입니다. 아침 식사 대용으로 먹는 잘 만들어진 시리얼 한 그릇이 생각나는 맛입니다. 이어서 새큼한 오렌지 맛이 뒤따라오네요.

끝맛: 피니시가 길지는 않지만 오렌지 오일과 커스다드 푸딩, 맥아보리가 충분히 느껴집니다. 새콤달콤하면서도 아주 부드럽습니다.

결론:

투세일이 한정판이라니 너무나 아쉽습니다. 오렌지 향과 맛 때문에 오반 14와 굉장히 비슷하다고 느꼈는데 곡물류의 구수함이 더해져서 인상적인 위스키였습니다. 다른 글렌모렌지 시리즈는 10년 숙성을 기반으로 만들어졌다보니 비슷한 점이 많았는데 투세일은 확실히 다른 개성이 느껴졌습니다.
