The Nectar D'or is an expression from Glenmorangie that has been finished in Sauternes dessert wine casks. Until recently, it was a 12 year old expression made in the same way as the Lasanta by taking the original 10 year old and finishing it in Sauternes casks for two years. However the latest variant of the Nectar d'or is now a no age statement expression.
Vitals:
ABV: 46%
Colour: Gold.
Chill-filtered: No.
Nose: Lemon and ginger cookies at first, with a touch of vanilla, followed by very fruity moscato wine, fresh grapes, honey and Japanese apricot flowers. After nosing for a while the aromas morph slowly into a slightly bitter roasted coffee with cream. 22.5/25
Palate: Rich with an oily mouthfeel. An initial burst of pepper and oak hits, followed by a very sweet medley of honey, sultanas, apples and a slightly sour lemon note. Oak lingers in the background and there’s a touch of vanilla and ginger when the sour lemon fades away. As it gets closer to its finish though, the initial sweetness practically disappears and is replaced with dry oak tannins. 21/25
Finish: Relatively short, dry and spicy, with notes of oak and unripe persimmon, nutmeg and powdered ginger. 9/25
Conclusion:
I was surprised at how dry the finish on this whisky was; given that the nose was extremely fruity and full of the sweet dessert wine notes, but perhaps when the nose slowly morphed into a coffee note, that should have been a warning that this whisky would end on a bitter note. I guess that's what you would call a...bittersweet ending? Overall, It feels a little less friendly than the rest of the Glenmorangie range. I would have liked to have tried the 12 year old version to see if that is better, but that has been discontinued.

향: 레몬과 생강과자 향이 먼저 올라오더니 이내 과일 향이 가득한 모스카토 와인과 꿀, 매화꽃 향이 납니다. 이후 천천히 쌉싸름한 볶은 커피원두의 향이 느껴집니다.
맛: 오일리하면서도 맛이 풍부합니다. 후추와 나무의 매콤한 맛이 먼저 혀를 강타하더니 이내 꿀과 말린 청포도, 사과와 같은 아주 달콤한 맛이 이어집니다. 그 와중에 레몬 맛이 살짝 느껴집니다. 신 맛이 옅어져갈 때 달콤함도 함께 사라지는데 오크통의 떫은 맛으로 완전히 바뀌네요.
끝맛: 피니시가 상당히 짧습니다. 우디한 맛을 비롯해 떫은 감 맛과 육두구, 생강 가루와 같은 드라이하고 매운 맛으로 끝납니다.
결론:
위스키의 피니시가 이렇게 드라이할 수 있다는 것에 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 중간에 커피 향이 느껴졌을 때 눈치를 챘어야 했던 것일까요.. 노즈와 팔레트에서 느낀 디저트 와인 같던 달콤함 때문에 전혀 기대하지 못했던 반전이었습니다. 달콤쌉싸름한 엔딩이었으면 좋았을텐데 달콤씁쓰름-한 엔딩이네요..
